A quick update #1

Author: BSC

The BSC team has successfully interviewed several small farmers and small food businesses in Latgale as part of the SALSA project. Most of the interviews took place on site and provided BSC researchers with a more in-depth understanding of the role that small farms and small food businesses play in the region. Interviews with farmers were conducted in the second half of April, while small businesses were interviewed at the beginning of May.

The team has recently been busy in other ways as well.

On 23 April, BSC (in cooperation with the Institute of Horticulture) organised a workshop dedicated to two projects that BSC researchers are currently working on (INNOFRUIT and AGRILINK). The event took place in Jelgava and provided valuable insights regarding the operation of demonstration farms in Latvia and the importance of face-to-face interactions with agricultural advisers.

On 26 April, BSC senior researcher Tālis Tisenkopfs gave a presentation at a meeting of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, Latvian Academy of Sciences. The aim of the presentation was to share the experience that the BSC team has gained in EU research projects. More information in Latvian available here.

Also on 26 April – BSC researcher Miķelis Grīviņš gave a talk at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. The title of the talk was The North remembers - wild product foraging in Europe. More information available here.
